Dunedin Tracking Company Chosen to Support Round-the-World Helicopter Record Attempt

06 August 2008

Dunedin-based TracPlus Global was along for the ride when American businessman Scott Kasprowicz attempted to set a new round-the-world record for a helicopter.

Which was just as well because 30 minutes into the flight the sat-phone failed - a potentially disastrous situation. This meant all communications to the aircraft from air traffic controllers had to be diverted to the cockpit via TracPlus, without which neither party would have heard the other.

Dubbed 'The Grand Adventure', Kasprowicz and Steve Sheik planned to fly their unmodified, twin-engine Agusta Westland Grand nearly 20,000 nautical miles in 14 days.

TracPlus Global was chosen as the official tracking provider for the attempt.

The company's support for the Grand Adventure followed its sponsorship of other record attempts, including the successful Crossing the Ditch trans-Tasman kayaking expedition.

TracPlus Global has just opened a US office in Atlanta, Georgia to take TracPlus into the North American market, and will operate a round-the-clock support centre there during the record attempt.

TracPlus is an innovative system that provides global tracking of assets in all transport environments, be it aviation, maritime or land - all within a single system.

One of its key points of difference is the way it is able to seamlessly integrate a wide range of different tracking hardware, communications networks and software packages, giving operators, agencies and authorities alike a clear view of the 'big picture'.

TracPlus is used in 12 countries as well as Antarctica, by such agencies as St John Ambulance Emergency Coordination Centres (ECC), Rescue Coordination Centre of New Zealand (RCCNZ), New York Air National Guard and Coastguard New Zealand.
