RNZAF Selects TracPlus

30 March 2011

After a comprehensive evaluation of aircraft tracking solutions, the Royal New Zealand Air Force Central Flying School at RNZAF Base Ohakea has chosen TracPlus Global as its tracking service provider.

The RNZAF has fitted its fleet of CT4 Airtrainers with TracPlus tracking units, which allow the pilot training aircraft to be tracked and monitored in real time using the Iridium satellite data network, even when the aircraft are outside radar coverage or radio contact.

Squadron Leader Jim Rankin, project manager for the evaluation and awarding of the contract said, "We were delighted to award this contract to a New Zealand company with a proven international record of professional experience and expertise."

"By its very nature, flight training requires students to continually extend and develop new skills under the close supervision of our instructors, and TracPlus allows us to improve our level of supervision and duty of care when student pilots are undertaking solo training, such as cross-country navigation exercises.

"Not only does this equip us with an essential search and rescue tool, it also allows us to make more efficient and more accountable use of our equipment and resources."

Chris Hinch, founder of TracPlus Global said, "We are proud to be supporting our defence forces, and while this success comes on the back of recent commercially significant deals around the world, including the national airborne firefighting contract in Australia, I am personally very proud that the RNZAF training squadron in particular has chosen our product and service."

In 1943, Hinch's grandfather was an RNZAF Instructor at RNZAF Station Taieri, and one of four personnel killed in a midair collision between two Tiger Moth training aircraft in August of that year.
